A giant twin strawberry shortcake is expected to be the highlight of the 2023 Strawberry Festival in this capital town of Benguet province.

Mayor Romeo Salda, in an interview on Tuesday, said this year’s festival is scheduled from March 6 to 31, after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.

From 2020 to 2022, the town suspended the festival but still held a thanksgiving event.

This town holds the Guinness World record for the biggest strawberry shortcake in 2004 that weighed 9,622.24 kilograms and was served to more than 10,000 persons.

The mayor said that while they are once again planning on cooking up a giant cake that residents and tourists can feast on, they will not try to break their 2004 record.

“We continue to hold the record and we don’t intend to break our record,” he said. (PNA)
