The municipality of Carrascal in Surigao del Sur distributed aid to farmers and fisherfolk whose sources of income were greatly affected by the past calamities and infestations.
In a statement on Saturday, the local government said at least 439 farmers and fisherfolk benefited from the two-day distribution of financial assistance last August 4 and 5.
A total of PHP1,038,006 financial aid was released to the beneficiaries during the two-day distribution activities.
“These farmers and fisherfolk were affected by the onslaught of Tropical Depression Vicky last December 2020 and other serious calamities that followed such as pests, diseases, and rodent infestations,” it said.
It added that the assistance was released through Executive Order (EO) issued by Mayor Vicente H. Pimentel III.
The EO outlines the rules and regulations on the utilization of the environmental hazard fee under the town’s Coastal resource management, Agroforestry, Rehabilitation, and Environmental sustainability program. (PNA)
