With the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) striking the world more than ever, compromises on our lifestyles have to be committed. And lately, the altruism among humans have been the silver lining of the crisis.
Princess Sofia of Sweden temporarily removes the royal crown in exchange of sporting navy blue scrubs, white sneakers, and a simple hair bun for a volunteer work at Sophiahemmet Hospital in Stockholm.
The 35-year-old received her three-day emergency training online. She won’t be directly tending the patients, a representative clarified. Instead, Princess Sofia will be in charge of decontaminating hospital equipment as well as kitchen and cleaning duties.
She took to Instagram the announcement along with a photo showing her new ‘Sofia’ name plate. “I am now placed in one of the hospital’s care departments, where together with other newly trained colleagues, I support and relieve the healthcare staff with different tasks,” she wrote. “To have the opportunity to help at this difficult time is extremely rewarding.”
The princess, who is also the honorary chair of Sophiahemmet, started doing shifts as a medical assistant on April 16.
Born Sofia Hellqvist, she was first a glamour model and reality TV star before marrying Prince Carl Philip in 2015. They have 2 sons: Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel.
Regardless of wealth and social status, people have been constant in exhibiting humanitarian acts. Over the course of the pandemic, we have seen frontliners donating food to street dwellers, personalities reaching their fundraiser quotas, regular citizens offering rides to health workers, and many more. It really goes to show that everybody has the capability to ease lives, so long as we have the eagerness to do so.
