The Tacloban City government has distributed some PHP3.2 million support fund for 2021 class opening preparations, benefitting some 64 public schools.

Mayor Alfred Romualdez said during the distribution on Wednesday each campus got PHP50,000 financial assistance to boost distance learning activities this academic year.

“One of the important programs that city focuses on is education. The city government continues to support all activities of the Department of Education to ensure a better system of education while battling the pandemic,” Romualdez said.

Imelda Gayas, principal of Rizal Central School, thanked the city government for institutionalizing the yearly release of the Brigada Eskwela financial assistance.

She said the fund will be used by their school to augment the maintenance and other operating expenses in support of school-based repair in preparation for the new school year.

Earlier, the education department asked stakeholders to gear up for the upcoming school year with the kick-off of the annual Brigada Eskwela.

With the slogan “Bayanihan para sa Paaralan,” this year’s Brigada Eskwela, which will run from August 3 to September 30, 2021, focuses on the preparations and partnership activities that will support the basic education-learning continuity plan including the multiple learning delivery modalities.

Brigada Eskwela is the national schools’ maintenance week that aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort, and resources to prepare public school facilities in time for the opening of classes. (PNA)
