The National Youth Congress (NYC) is an annual convention that aspires to introduce high
schoolers to the field of economics and how economic analysis highlights society’s most pressing issues. Established in 2004 in the UP School of Economics, NYC continues its legacy of fostering ideas and inspiring progress.
Now on its 16th year, the NYC aims to convene 250-300 high school students from all over the country to learn about economic concepts that are highly relevant and applicable in the Philippine context. Through activities such as the SMART Workshop, Quiz Bee, Amazing Race, and pre-event competitions INK and GLIMPSE, NYC strives to challenge and form the youth to become critical citizens.
With the theme The PH Blueprint: Reshaping the Economy for a Digital and Smart Future, this year’s Congress will tackle topics in automation, bringing about the importance of technology and disruptions in our economy. As industries and markets lean closer towards digital platforms, NYC will examine how national development is affected. In these times, the youth who are most immersed in these new media will be at the forefront to understand, and more importantly, to lead.
The 16th National Youth Congress will take place on November 9-11, 2019 in the University of the Philippines – Diliman. It is open to all public and private high school students.
