The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) Help and Food Bank has ready relief goods to be distributed to affected families during emergencies, such as disasters and calamities.

PRO 6 spokesperson Maj. Mary Grace Borio said on Wednesday they have initially gathered 130 sacks of rice, 83 cases of assorted canned goods, 80 cases of noodles (mixed of instant and pancit canton), 18 cases of coffee/milo/milk and biscuits, three boxes of assorted vitamins, one balikbayan box of used clothing, and 50 boxes of assorted food packs during the launching of their PNP (Philippine National Police) Help and Food Bank at the regional headquarters in Camp Martin Delgado on July 22.

“This originated during the pandemic, we called it a community pantry and changed to the food bank,” she said in an interview.

Borio said through the PNP, the release of any assistance intended for affected families is faster as they are already on the ground extending support in times of calamity.

“It will just be an initial support while help is on its way since they are on the ground, they know the situation, and they are the first to respond,” she added.

Provincial and city police offices will also have their food bank so they can extend aid within their jurisdiction.

The Regional Community Affairs and Development Division will manage the operation of the food bank, Borio said.

She added they are monitoring the effects of Typhoon Egay and the enhanced southwest monsoon for any support they can extend to affected families. (PNA)
