The city government awarded cash incentives Monday in recognition of Zamboangueño athletes who excelled in international athletic competitions.

The honored athletes are International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Youth Championship gold medalist Albert Delos Santos; IWF youth silver medalists Angeline Colonia, Rose Jean Ramos and Rosalinda Faustino; and Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Pencak Silat bronze medalist Denmark Abdurasid.

Dr. Cecile Atilano, city sports division chief, said Delos Santos bagged two gold medals in the IWF youth contest while Ramos captured three silver, and Colonia and Faustino one silver medal each.

The IWF World Youth Championship was held in Durres, Albania from March 25 to April 1, and the SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from May 5 to 17.

Based on a city ordinance, the gold medalist in the IWF competition received a cash incentive of PHP250,000 and PHP200,000 each for the silver medalists.

On the other hand, the SEA Games bronze medalist received PHP150,000.

Mayor John Dalipe turned over PHP500,000 in checks to Delos Santos for his two gold medals and PHP250,000 in check to his father-coach Alvin.

Gregorio Colonia, the coach of Angeline and Faustino, received a PHP450,000 incentive.

Meanwhile, the rest of the medal haulers will receive later their respective cash incentives as needed documents for their reward are still being processed. (PNA)
