Sixty-three residents of the towns of Tagbina and Barobo in Surigao del Sur received PHP15,000 each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Zero Hunger Payout under its Sustainable Livelihood Program.

In a statement Tuesday, DSWD 13 (Caraga) said the funds would help expand local businesses, including corn, coffee, salted eggs, chorizo, and banana chip production.

In Tagbina, the recipients are set to invest in equipment and materials for their corn, coffee, and salted egg production.

In Barobo, the funds will be used to purchase essential equipment for chorizo and banana chip production.

“This assistance is vital for our production and market competitiveness,” the department said.

Bengmert Canal, a corn coffee producer, expressed gratitude, emphasizing the payout’s impact on her livelihood’s sustainability.

“This is a major help to my livelihood project, and I will work hard to ensure its sustainability,” Canal said.

The DSWD’s Zero Hunger Payout initiative aims to reduce hunger and boost food security in rural communities. (PNA)
