If you’re gearing up for your next flight, we’ve got some great news! The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has announced that you can now bring extension cords and power strips in your carry-on luggage.

What’s Changed?

As of May 15, you no longer need to pack extension cords and power strips in your checked baggage. This change is part of an ongoing review of the OTS Prohibited Items List, aiming to make travel smoother and more convenient.

Why the Change?

The new policy comes after numerous passenger complaints and aligns with the Department of Transportation’s goal of providing a seamless travel experience. The OTS is committed to balancing security and passenger convenience, ensuring your journey is comfortable, accessible, safe, and hassle-free.

What Can’t You Bring?

While extension cords and power strips are now allowed, remember that some items are still prohibited in carry-on luggage. These include:

  • Firearms or even toy replicas of firearms
  • Self defense items
  • Worker tools
  • Chemicals or any flammable item
  • Liquids in containers and more

Plan Ahead

Next time you pack for a trip, remember that your handy extension cords and power strips can stay with you in your carry-on. Happy travels! ✈
